Greetings from (where else?) the Edmonton airport, where, on this day of less than 4 hours of sleep,
I'm grateful for the new Tim Horton's on the other side of security (no promotional fee was paid--
not even a free doughnut or coffee refill was given--for that plug). This is good, because otherwise
I would have had to pass through security again, and I hate that, because they always want to look
at the microphone I use for my Sirius broadcasts, and then I'm forced to take it out and pretend
to sing "My Way" for the security guards, and it just gets ugly.
By now you've probably realized that our early April tour of Turkmenistan (The Bluegrass and
Natural Gas Festival) was an April Fools hoax. My apologies to the die-hard fans in Dahlonega, GA
who booked non-refundable tickets.
The Night Drivers and I, along with Gail Johnson, Paul Kramer, Heather Berry and Pam Daley,
accompanied Tom T. Hall in Marion, VA on April 5th for a "Song of the Mountains" TV taping
there. It will air on PBS on a future date. I'll keep you posted. Tom T. came out of retirement
especially for the show and performed a combination of his classic hits and some of the newer
bluegrass material. It was a thrill for all of us. I was very excited to play some fretted dobro
on the show, using the same instrument that was used on all of Tom T.'s Mercury records. They advise
against taking up a new instrument and then debuting it on national television, but they also advise
against playing bluegrass music for a living, so apparently I'm not that good at taking advice.
All of my May tour dates are posted. Sally is doing a European tour using Night Drivers Ned
Luberecki and Jon Weisberger. This time, I'm along primarily for child care, autobahn driving
and moral support, but I will make some guest musical appearances and I'll also play some solo shows
there that are listed.
When I return, I'll be heading straight to Branson, MO (for maximum culture shock and jetlag) where
I'll be emceeing a big bluegrass show. Since the Broadcaster award, I've been getting more MC
bookings, so there'll be a few more of these in the future I'm sure.
See you down the road somewhere.
Chris
Important news: Lisa Jacobi (of the band Steel String Session) redesigned this website. Her web development
company is Curmudgeon Cafe. Thanks to her and to my brother Ben Jones for all their hard work.
